Change Begins with Choice

Came across this today and found it had great insight on where your life is currently and where you would like to take it. Jared

Change Begins with Choice

by Jim Rohn

Any day we wish, we can discipline ourselves to change it all. Any day we wish, we can open the book that will open our mind to new knowledge. Any day we wish, we can start a new activity. Any day we wish, we can start the process of life change. We can do it immediately, or next week, or next month, or next year.

We can also do nothing. We can pretend rather than perform. And if the idea of having to change ourselves makes us uncomfortable, we can remain as we are. We can choose rest over labor, entertainment over education, delusion over truth, and doubt over confidence. The choices are ours to make. But while we curse the effect, we continue to nourish the cause. As Shakespeare uniquely observed, “The fault is not in the stars, but in ourselves.” We created our circumstances by our past choices. We have both the ability and the responsibility to make better choices beginning today. Those who are in search of the good life do not need more answers or more time to think things over to reach better conclusions. They need the truth. They need the whole truth. And they need nothing but the truth.

We cannot allow our errors in judgment, repeated every day, to lead us down the wrong path. We must keep coming back to those basics that make the biggest difference in how our life works out. And then we must make the very choices that will bring life, happiness and joy into our daily lives.

And if I may be so bold to offer my last piece of advice for someone seeking and needing to make changes in their life: If you don’t like how things are, change it! You’re not a tree. You have the ability to totally transform every area in your life. And it all begins with your very own power of choice.

Finance Minister Announces Stephen Poloz as New Governor of the Bank of Canada - May 2013

In somewhat of a surprise move, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty passed over presumptive favourite Senior Deputy Governor Tiff Macklem in naming Stephen Poloz as the new governor of the Bank of Canada.
Mr. Poloz spent 14 years with the Bank of Canada in numerous roles including Chief of the Bank's Research Department before moving on to Export Development Canada (EDC) where he served as the Chief Economist and, since 2011, as the EDC's CEO and President.

While Mr. Poloz has been outside of monetary policy-making for some time and his views are relatively unknown, we do not expect the Bank's approach to change in a material way in the near future. The Bank will still operate under a flexible inflation targeting regime with a focus on medium-run inflation of 2 per cent and our view remains that interest rates will remain on hold over the next year while the Bank's forward guidance on rates will remain neutral. BCREA Chief Economist, Cameron Muir

Excellence is a Habit

Aside from the usual things like working, eating, and sleeping, what activities do you spend time doing on a daily basis?

This question is to make you aware of some of your daily habits and to motivate you to consider thinking about the consequences that these daily habits will have on your life in terms of your self growth and happiness 1, 5, and 10 years from now.

How your life will turn out will largely depend on what you habitually do on a daily basis. We all know instinctively that spending an hour a day watching mindless TV will lead us down a different path in life compared to spending an hour a day reading or learning something or exercising. We also know that eating bad foods 3 times a day, every day, will give us a different result compared to eating good foods.

Think about the life you want to experience 5 or 10 years from now or even 1 year from now and figure out what habits you would have to develop for your vision to become a reality. Whether it’s being able to speak another language, play an instrument, be an expert in your industry, develop strong friendships, feel healthy and vibrant, or anything else, it’s going to take consistent work over an extended period of time.

If you look at and project the results your habits out into the future and don’t like what you see, the time to make some changes is now.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle

Power of Words

I thought i would share this great little story by Jim Rohn on the power of our words, laguage and thought. Have an awesome day! Jared

The Subtlety of Language

by Jim Rohn

I have found that sometimes the subtle difference in our attitude, which of course can make a major difference in our future, can be as simple as the language we use. The difference in even how you talk to yourself or others. Consciously making a decision to quit saying what you don't want and to start saying what you do want. I call that faith. Believing the best, hoping for the best and moving toward the best.

A few examples could be, instead of saying “What if somebody doesn't respond?” you start saying, “What if they do respond?” Instead of saying “What if someone says no?” you say “What if they say yes?” Instead of ‘What if they start and quit?” you say ‘What if they start and stay?” Or instead of “What if it doesn't work out?” you say “What if it does work out?” And the list goes on and on.

I found that when you start thinking and saying what you really want then your mind automatically shifts and pulls you in that direction. And sometimes it can be that simple, just a little twist in vocabulary that illustrates your attitude and philosophy.

Our language can also affect how others perform and behave around us. A teenager says to a parent, “I need $10.” If the parent learns to say, “That kind of language doesn't work here. We've got plenty of money, but that's not how you get $10,” then you teach your teenager how to ask, “How can I earn $10?”

That is the magic of words. There is plenty of money here. There is money for everybody, but you just have to learn the magic words to get them—for everything you could possibly want, if you just learn the philosophy. How could I earn $10? Because you can't go to the soil and say, “Give me a harvest.” You know the soil smiles and says, “Who is this clown that brings me his need and brings me no seed.” And if you said to the soil, “I've got this seed and if I planted it, would you work while I sleep?” the soil says, “No problem. Give me the seed. Go to sleep and I'll be working while you're sleeping.”

If you just understand these simple principles, teaching them to a teenager (or adult) is sometimes just a matter of language. It's like an investment account instead of a savings account. Simple language, but so important. It is easy to stumble through almost a lifetime and not learn some of these simplicities. Then you have to put up with all the lack and all the challenges that don't work out simply from not reading the book, not listening to the tape, not sitting in the class, not studying your language and not being willing to search so you can then find.

But here is the great news: You can start this process anytime. For me it was at age 25. At 25 I'm broke. Six years later I'm a millionaire. Somebody says, “What kind of revolution, what kind of change, what kind of thinking, what kind of magic had to happen? Was it you?” And I say, “No. Any person, any six years, 36 to 42, 50 to 56. Whatever six years; whatever few years you go on an intensive, accelerated personal-development curve, learning curve, application curve, and learning the disciplines.” Now, it might not take the same amount of time, but I'm telling you the same changes and the same rewards in some different fashion are available for those who pay that six–year price. And you might find that whether it's in the beginning to help get you started, or in the middle to keep you on track, that your language can have a great impact on your attitude, actions and results.

Five Star Mortgage Professional Award

VANCOUVER, BC, February 22, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Five Star Professionals research team contacted over 48,800 households in the Vancouver area to identify residents who have worked with a mortgage professional in the past 8 months. These were residents who purchased a home in Vancouver between September 2011 and May 2012. The respondents evaluated candidates against 5 key objective criteria including customer service, integrity and overall experience. Other criteria included applicable licensing and favorable regulatory history.

After collecting completed surveys (by phone, email and online), Five Star Professional evaluates each candidate for completeness, licensing and to eliminate self-nomination. Self-nominations for this award are not accepted. They are then given a score for favorable and unfavorable evaluations. From there, winners are determined.

"This came totally out of the blue," comments Jared Dreyer, President Dreyer Group Mortgages, "we're thrilled and honored by this award primarily because it comes directly from client feedback." Dreyer continues, "I understand that there are 13 other winners and congratulate each of them."

The 14 Winners of 2013 will be published in the March issues of Vancouver Magazine and Western Living.

Habits are the Stairway to a Richer Life

Habits are the Stairway to a Richer Life

by Napoleon Hill

You can see that an oak tree grows from an acorn, always, and a pine tree grows from the seed of its ancestor. And you know that Nature never makes a mistake and grows a pine tree from an acorn, nor an oak tree from the seed of a pine.

There are facts you can see. But do you recognize that they do not “just happen” by chance – something has to make them happen! That something is the power which fixes habits and makes them permanent. Man is the only creature which the Creator permits the privilege of fixing his own habits to suit his own desires.

We are ruled by habits, all of us! Our habits are fastened upon us by repetition of our thoughts and acts. Therefore we can control our earthly destinies and our way of living only to the extent that we control our thoughts. We must direct them to form the sort of habits we need to serve as our road map to guide our lives. Good habits which lead to success can be ordered and used by any individual. Bad habits can be broken and replaced by good ones at will by anyone.

Man Has Control

The habits of every living creature except man are fixed by what we call “instinct.” This places them under limitations from which they cannot escape.

The Creator not only gave men complete, unchallengeable control over the power of thought, but with this gift came the means of possessing thought power and directing it to any desired end.

The Creator has also given man another privilege whereby thoughts are made to clothe themselves in their physical likeness and equivalent.

Here, then, is a profound truth. With it you may open doors to wisdom and live an ordered life, you will be able to control those factors necessary to your success.

The rewards available to the person who takes possession of his own mind power and directs it to definite ends of his own choice are great in number. But penalties for not doing so are equally great in number.

Economic Highlights

Economic Highlights
Canada

• The Canadian labour market lost 22,000 net jobs in January and the unemployment rate edged down to 7.0%. January’s poor result should be seen as more of a pay-back for the outsized job gains seen in late 2012 when economic growth slowed. Job creation should come in around 10,000-20,000 in the next few months in a modest growth environment

• At 160,600 units in January, housing starts came in at their lowest level since July 2009, down 18.5%. The sharp January decline is not that surprising following what is believed to have been an unsustainable pace of construction in 2012. Given the current cooling of the housing market in general, Canadians should not look to residential construction as a source of strength moving forward in 2013.

• While Canada’s international trade deficit narrowed in December to $0.9 billion, both exports (-0.9%) and imports (-2.8%) declined, painting a discouraging picture of Canada’s economy at the end of 2012. Although December’s slip is hardly uplifting, export growth should bounce back in 2013 matching increased demand from the U.S.

United States

• The U.S. trade deficit narrowed to $38.5 billion in December – its smallest level in three-years.

• Stronger-than-expected exports and weaker-than-expected imports will result in an upward revision to fourth quarter GDP growth when the second estimate comes out at the end of this month. We expect real GDP to have grown by 0.5% (annualized) rather than the 0.1% contraction initially reported.

• With the strong hand-off at the end of 2012, U.S. exports are likely to rebound in the first quarter of this year. Firmed by trade, but held back by higher taxes, we expect real GDP growth to improve to 2.0% (annualized) in Q1 2013.
